Franz joined SSI as Research Scientist in 2009. Prior to that, he spent several years at Penn State University, Cambridge University, and Columbia University as a postdoctoral researcher. Franz's research interests include investigation of deep blank-field surveys (radio through X-ray) to study AGN demographics, the co-eval feeding and evolution of galaxies and super-massive black holes, structure formation, and the study and characterization of nearby supernovae and high-mass X-ray binaries.
Franz is currently splitting time between teaching in Santiago, Chile at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile and working from his home office in Brooklyn, NY.
