About the Alternative Version

The Space Science Institute led the development of the Saturn Educator Guide, under contract to the Cassini project at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. During the development of the Guide at SSI, classroom field testing of the "Saturn's Moons" activity supported certain layout choices designed to make the guide easier for teachers to prepare and for students to use. This layout was incorporated into SSI's version of the Guide. The final version of the Guide, distributed by JPL, used an alternative design. The only substantive difference between these two versions is the layout of the Moon Cards.

We are making the original, field test version of this lesson available here for anyone who might wish to use it, as well as for those who began using the activity prior to its final release, and are accustomed to the original layout. Note that it was the field test version of the lesson that was selected for inclusion in More Universe at Your Fingertips, produced by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. To order this resource, the 2nd in the Universe series, please go to: http://www.aspsky.org/astro/moreuniverse.html.

Vertical Layout

The final version of the "Saturn's Moon" lesson, printed by JPL, orients the moon cards horizontally. This forces the moon data on a given card into two columns   The field test version of the lesson orients the moon cards vertically. This allows the moon data to be placed in a single column on each card. As a result, cards can be placed side-by-side, and data for different moons compared by scanning across cards horizontally.
